Our Liverpool criminal lawyers can discuss each of these options with you, and work towards achieving it.
Do I have to attend court and talk?
This depends on the stage that your case is at, and whether you’re on bail conditions.
We can talk to you to determine if you’re required to attend and talk in court.
If you’re represented by a lawyer, you may not be required to appear in court. Our experienced lawyers will appear on your behalf and talk on your behalf in court.
If you wish to defend the allegations, we’ll attend court for you and enter a plea of ‘not guilty’. The Court will then make orders which’ll be explained to you by us beforehand.
If you wish to have the case quickly finalised and wish to plead guilty, then we’ll enter pleas of ‘guilty’ on your behalf in court. We’ll then ensure that you’re completely prepared for sentence beforehand. We’ll then make compelling submissions on your behalf to the Judge or Magistrate to get the best possible outcome for you.
Sometimes, it’s beneficial to give oral or written evidence to court. Our lawyers and instructed barristers can discuss this with you well beforehand to ensure you’re well prepared.
What do I say/not say in court?
If you’re ever in a position to talk to the Judge or Magistrate to respond to a question or wanting to say something in court, you must address the Judge or Magistrate as “Your Honour” before saying what you wish to say.
Be polite and do not talk over or interrupt the Judge or Magistrate. If your case is called, approach the bar table and address the Judge or Magistrate as “Your Honour”. Then mention your full name.
We can discuss this with you. We always advise our clients about this before going to court.
