Kate Miller

Senior Criminal Defence Lawyer

Kate Miller is a highly respected senior member of the CDLA team. She is an experienced ex-prosecutor turned defence lawyer with years of experience specialising in the most serious criminal cases in Sydney and interstate.

Kate carries years of specialised experience in both prosecution and defence. She has successfully prosecuted amongst the most serious criminal cases for the Director of Public Prosecutions in Western Australia, Parramatta, Penrith, and Sydney, NSW. Her knowledge of prosecution tactics, procedures and familiarity with Judges and Magistrates puts her clients in a significant, unique tactical advantage over the prosecution.

Kate is a master of her craft when it comes to persuasive advocacy in court. She is a force to be reckoned with in the court room, with a fierce and highly respected reputation as amongst Sydney’s most respected, sought-after criminal defence lawyers.

Her unique experience and skills have forged her into a successful and formidable criminal defence lawyer, reflected in her proven track record in achieving exceptional and outstanding results over the years in successfully defending her clients in countless ‘not guilty’ verdicts, section 10 non-conviction sentence outcomes, and getting serious criminal charges withdrawn early. She has represented people in Western Australia, Queensland and NSW.

Her background and experience in prosecution allows her to most-effectively negotiate with prosecutors to get serious criminal charges dropped early, saving her clients the costs of legal fees and stresses of going to court.

Kate’s past experience allows her to take an empathetic and sensitive approach to the ideas and needs of others, many of whom are disadvantaged and marginalised. She has a passion for social justice and protecting and promoting the legal rights of vulnerable members of our society.

She firmly believes that every person involved with the criminal justice system deserves to be treated with respect. Kate is a strong advocate for positive, rehabilitative outcomes and provides support to her clients each step of the way.

Kate is a high achiever and does not settle for second best. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Laws & Arts (Double Major: 1) in politics and International Relations and History; a Graduate Diploma in Professional Legal Practice from the College of Law; Graduate Certificate in Criminology from Bond University with electives in transnational crime, forensic criminology, decriminalisation of drugs in Portugal, and police use of body worn cameras.

Kate has been admitted as a solicitor and barrister from the Supreme Court, and is currently undertaking community legal work in providing refugee visa application assistance. Kate is also an active member of her local community by patrolling for Surf Life Saving Australia. She truly believes in the ‘fair go’ approach that we all deserve in Australia.

With Kate by your side, you can expect a can-do attitude, with reliable, practicable and compassionate legal advice. She has the unique ability to see the devil in the detail with a relentless fight to win to attain the best possible outcome.
