Having grown up in Sydney, Francis brings a deep understanding of the criminal justice system and court processes across the Local, District and Supreme Courts to every matter he handles reflected in his track record of having achieved outstanding results over the years.
Francis joined CDLA after practising as a criminal defence lawyer at another large criminal law firm, where he developed substantial experience across a broad range of criminal matters and honed his practical advocacy skills in busy court jurisdictions.
He completed his Bachelor of Laws with Honours at Macquarie University. During his Honours year, Francis undertook extensive research into genocide within international criminal law, with his thesis later published — reflecting his analytical depth and ability to engage with complex legal issues at the highest level.
His dedication and professional excellence have been recognised nationally. Francis was named the winner of the 30 Under 30 Awards in the Criminal Law category in both 2024 and 2025, earning recognition as Australia’s leading criminal lawyer under 30 for two consecutive years.
Francis practises exclusively in criminal defence, appearing in court for serious criminal matters involving bail applications and serious indictable offences, including sexual assault, drugs, domestic violence, apprehended violence orders (AVOs), and traffic matters.
He appears regularly in Local, District and appellate courts across New South Wales and has experience conducting mental health diversion applications, severity and conviction appeals and assisting in matters before the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal.
